Explore the mountains with a different perspective: a new Nature Trail is waiting for you to unveil the secrets of CAI trails 420 and 421, which connect the Rifugio Duca d’Aosta to the Rifugio Pomedes.
A brand-new experience awaits hikers in summer 2025 along CAI trails 420 and 421 in the Tofane area: a new nature-themed trail has been created, connecting Rifugio Duca d’Aosta to Rifugio Pomedes. This scenic hike is enriched with educational content and encourages visitors to observe the natural world with fresh eyes.
More than just a panoramic walk, the trail offers an immersive journey into the geology of the Dolomites and the local ecosystem. Along the route, informative panels explain key aspects of the area — from rock formation to the features of the larch and stone pine forest, and even the local climate.
The trail stretches for about 1 km, with a total elevation gain of 211 metres (from 2,092 m at Rifugio Duca d’Aosta to 2,303 m at Rifugio Pomedes). The first part is easy and suitable for most hikers (rated as a tourist path), while the final section requires a bit more experience.
The average hiking time, including stops to read the signs, is around 30 minutes.
Rifugio Duca d’Aosta can be reached in summer via the Piè Tofana – Duca d’Aosta chairlift, departing from the Cortina basin. From there, the trail leads to Rifugio Pomedes with breathtaking views of the Tofane peaks and the Ampezzo valley.
