On the slopes of Cortina
Skiing in Cortina d’Ampezzo is much more than a sport: it is happiness, it is freedom, it is feeling the snow and the wind, the sun on your face, it is hisotry.
The Cortina ski area is part of the ski area of the Dolomiti Superski, which was founded in Cortina d’Ampezzo itself in 1974. The other 14 ski areas later joined together, creating the wonderful 1,200-kilometer ski carousel of slopes accessible with a single Skipass, now known worldwide as a true dream for alpine ski and snowboard enthusiasts.
In 1956, Cortina hosted Italy’s first Winter Olympic Games — the first ever broadcast on television and the first to feature the Olympic oath taken by a female athlete. Seventy years later, in 2026, Cortina d’Ampezzo once again took center stage, hosting the Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games.
In addition, alpine skiing over the years has experienced other moments of glory among the Ampezzo Dolomites thanks to the numerous competitions of the Women’s Ski World Cup and the 2021 World Championships, which confirmed the international role of the Queen of the Dolomites in the sport.
