Cult Cortina
Harrods? Lafayette? Please. We’ve got La Cooperativa di Cortina!
Since 1893, the most iconic and cult department store in all of Italy! Six floors of shopping, over 4,000 square meters of displays, and more than 100,000 items that’ll blow your mind.
I thought long and hard about what to write for this new episode of #CultCortina, it wasn’t easy. I’ve been visiting La Cooperativa for as long as I can remember, a place where you truly can find everything, from a safety pin to a mountain goat!
My school memories always start right here, when at the end of August, as summer was winding down, my mom would take me to buy all the back-to-school essentials: backpacks, folders, pens, diaries… But nowadays, my favorite spot is the balcony level. I could spend hours in the hardware section, right by the small appliances, losing track of the whole day!
When I think of something truly cult that comes straight from the heart and spirit of the Cooperativa, today I think of the Lunario: the iconic calendar of the community. It’s a calendar everyone should have at home here in Cortina (and beyond). A wonderful tribute, full of stories, news, and traditions that are an absolute must-know for anyone who lives in or visits this sun-kissed valley blessed by the gods. For over 80 years, this unmistakable symbol of Cortina d’Ampezzo has been printed with the same spirit, renewing its look while keeping its precious features, most importantly: the Ampezzo dialect!
If you think the ultimate classic calendar is the Farmer’s Almanac, it’s only because you haven’t discovered the Cooperativa’s El Lunario yet!
