Welcome to Cult Cortina, my column dedicated to the Ampezzo valley. I’ll guide you through top spots, style, delicacies, timeless trends, and all kinds of hidden gems.
It’s me, George, your ever-reliable dandy!
Cult Cortina
Mauro Guerresco is undoubtedly the most dandy clothing store in all of Cortina!
Mauro is a true heir to a family legacy: the Guerresco dynasty, esteemed figures in Cortina’s fashion and business scene, dates back to 1945, when Vittorio opened the very first small boutique specializing in leather goods and shoes on Via Roma, just off Corso Italia. It was in this historic shop that even my great-grandparents used to shop! Over the course of 80 years, this story has evolved, now boasting a total of eight stores.
I’ve been fortunate enough to visit their stores since I was a kid. At the core of this iconic Italian business’s success are, without a doubt, a guarantee of quality and an immense sense of style. Now, with a more mature and refined perspective, I can say that the real secret behind their success lies in a fundamental, and not so common, element: careful sourcing. And as experience shows, dedication to quality always pays off, instantly elevating a brand to cult status. And when you’re truly “cult,” your success becomes lasting, and your prestige shines as a model of excellence.
If you’re looking for beautiful shoes (and that’s no easy task), value the quality of Made in Italy, want something durable, and love leather and fine hides just like I do, this is definitely the place to go!
My iconic, undisputed must-have since the wonderful ’80s are the dark brown leather ankle boots lined with wool and with Vibram soles. The ultimate chic institution of the winter season here in Cortina. Practically like a silk glove… Timeless!
