Cult Cortina
We’re dedicating the last Cult Cortina article of the season to the famous Brazorà, the traditional Ampezzo focaccia, also known as “The sweet of the Newlyweds.” It’s a soft braided ring, sprinkled with crunchy sugar crystals. Where to find it? Of course, at Santuz, Cortina’s historic bakery, frequented even by my great-grandparents since the 1940s!
Traditionally, Brazorà was the gift that Ampezzo newlyweds used to offer to relatives and friends as an invitation to their wedding. Its characteristic braided circular shape symbolizes the embrace surrounding their marital love.
I’ve always loved Brazorà, a staple of my sweetest and most cherished breakfasts and snacks here in Cortina since I was a kid. My personal favorite way to enjoy it? Dipped in warm milk, with a little barley coffee and lots and lots of honey… Simply amazing! 😋
