“Rosso Volante”: A Movie Dedicated to Eugenio Monti

The lead role is played by Giorgio Pasotti, directed by Leonardo Bison. The film will air on Rai1 next winter during the opening ceremony of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic Games. Produced by Rai Fiction, Wonder Film, and Wonder Project, it represents a heartfelt tribute to the history of sport in Cortina and in Italy.

At the Fiames Sports Center, the production transformed the “Renzo Alverà” push track into a striking bobsleigh run, using cellulose to recreate snow and ice and creating a powerful visual contrast against the lush green forest. The scenes evoke the atmosphere of the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, complete with period-accurate flags, signage, and decorations.

The movie also highlights Monti’s legendary act of fair play, which earned him the very first De Coubertin medal in Olympic history: during the 1964 Olympics, he offered a mechanical part from his own bobsleigh to British rival Tony Nash, who went on to win the gold medal.

“Rosso Volante” pays homage to Monti, a true icon who won six Olympic medals (two silvers in Cortina 1956, two bronzes in Innsbruck 1964, two golds in Grenoble 1968) and around ten world titles, becoming a symbol of sportsmanship, loyalty, and human greatness.
