The Cortina Festival is one of the most anticipated events of the summer season in Cortina d’Ampezzo. This traditional celebration brings together locals and visitors alike for a weekend dedicated to the customs, heritage and spirit of the town’s historic districts, known as “sestieri”.
The 2026 edition will take place in the center of Cortina d’Ampezzo on July 4 and 5, featuring a vibrant program of live music, local food, entertainment and traditional competitions.
Festivities begin on Saturday, July 4, in Piazza Angelo Dibona with the opening of the Chiosco dei Sestieri at 4:00 PM. The evening continues at 8:30 PM with a live concert by Party a 90, bringing music and entertainment to the heart of town.
The highlight of the festival takes place on Sunday, July 5, when Cortina’s historic center comes alive with the traditional challenges between the six sestieri. The afternoon begins at 3:00 PM with a performance by the Cortina d’Ampezzo Town Band, followed by the start of the historic “Ra Corsa dei Sestiere”, one of the most cherished and deeply rooted traditions in Ampezzo culture.
Representing the districts of Alverà , Azzon, Cadin, Chiave, Cortina and Zuel, participants compete in a series of events including the Minipalio for children, the Women’s Palio, the Men’s Palio—traditional running races where teams from each district compete to reach the finish line first— as well as the exciting Log Cutting Contest and Tug of War competition.
At the end of the day, winners will be awarded during the prize ceremony, followed by the traditional lottery drawing. Throughout the festival, food and drink stands organized by the Sestieri d’Ampezzo will be available, offering local specialties and refreshments.
More than just a festival, the Cortina Festival is an authentic celebration of local culture and community life.
