Cortina 56-26: The Legacy Trail

A brand-new trail running event is set to debut in the summer of 2026 among the UNESCO Dolomites: Cortina 56-26, the new race organized by Fondazione Cortina in partnership with Karpos, combining sport, heritage, and territory along a symbolic route that connects two historic moments for Cortina d’Ampezzo.

On one side, the 1956 Winter Olympic Games, which became part of international sports history. On the other, Milano Cortina 2026, with Cortina once again taking center stage on the global winter sports scene.

Cortina 56-26 was created from this connection, with the goal of transforming the Olympic legacy into an authentic, emotional, and immersive sporting experience, crossing some of the most iconic venues in the Ampezzo area.

Participants will be able to choose between two race formats:

• 56 km: 56.5 km with 2,800 meters of positive elevation gain for those looking to take on a true endurance challenge in the mountains.
• 26 km: 25.3 km with 1,310 meters of positive elevation gain for an intense and scenic experience, also suitable for less extreme trail runners.

Both races can be completed either individually or in a two-person relay format, with teams made up of two athletes. Relay teams may compete in men’s, women’s, or mixed categories, adding an extra element of sharing and team spirit to the race experience.

Both courses will start in the center of Cortina d’Ampezzo and finish in the Zuel area at the historic Olympic Ski Jump.

Every kilometer passes through iconic locations tied to Cortina’s sporting history, offering spectacular views of the Tofane, Cristallo, Faloria, and the mountains that have made Cortina famous around the world.

Every climb, descent, and panorama tells part of the story of Cortina d’Ampezzo, set within one of the most iconic mountain landscapes on Earth.
