From July 15 to September 2, 2026, Cortina d’Ampezzo welcomes back The Wednesdays of Ladin Culture – History and Culture of the Mèrcui, the annual summer series dedicated to exploring the history, traditions, and cultural identity of the Ampezzo Valley and the Ladin-speaking regions of the Dolomites.
Now in its 14th edition, the event is organized by the Union de i Ladis d’Anpezo in collaboration with the Istitut Cultural Ladin Cesa de Jan. It offers a unique opportunity to gain deeper insight into the historical, artistic, and social heritage of Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Through presentations and discussions led by historians, experts, and local figures, both residents and visitors will have the chance to explore topics ranging from local history and Ladin legends to the environment and the institutions that have shaped the community over time. The 2026 program features eight meetings focused on important anniversaries, iconic places, traditions, collective memory, and the organizations that continue to preserve the cultural identity of the Dolomites.
More than a cultural lecture series, The Wednesdays of Ladin Culture provide an opportunity to discover Cortina d’Ampezzo from a different perspective, connecting with the stories, values, and people who safeguard its rich heritage. It is an invitation to experience the region more authentically and to understand the roots of a community that proudly preserves its language and traditions.
All events begin at 10:30 AM, are free of charge, and open to everyone. Transportation costs and admission fees to museums or other venues, where applicable, are not included.
July 15, 2026 – 10:30 AM | 80 Years of Unity Among the Five Ladin Valleys of the Sella Group – with Denni Dorigo
A journey through the history of the Union de i Ladis and the cultural significance of unity among the Ladin communities.

July 22, 2026 – 10:30 AM | The History of the Codivilla Putti Institute – with Dr. Ferdinando Darin
An in-depth look at the Codivilla Putti Institute, a renowned medical center that helped make Cortina internationally recognized in the field of medicine.

July 29, 2026 – 10:30 AM | 50th Anniversary of Radio Cortina
Join the celebrations marking fifty years of Radio Cortina, the iconic local radio station that has long been a voice of the Ampezzo Valley.

August 5, 2026 – 10:30 AM | The Cortina Hunting Reserve: A Delicate Ecosystem – with Bruno Menardi and Dr. Paolo Zanetti, General of the Italian Forestry Carabinieri
A discussion dedicated to the balance between wildlife, environmental conservation, and land stewardship.

August 12, 2026 – 10:30 AM | Ladin Legends: Donna Dindia – with Susy Rottonara
A fascinating journey through myth, oral traditions, and Ladin culture, exploring one of the most famous figures in Dolomite folklore.

August 19, 2026 – 10:30 AM | Ospitale Church: 800 Years of History and Tradition – with Professor Giacomel
Discover one of the oldest and most significant landmarks in the Ampezzo Valley, preserving centuries of history and spirituality.

August 26, 2026 – 10:30 AM | The Sestieri of Ampezzo: 90 Years of Activity – with Sergio Majoni Majolin and Marco Dibona
An exploration of the history and role of the Sestieri in the social and cultural life of Cortina d’Ampezzo.

September 2, 2026 – 10:30 AM | Dr. Angelo Majoni Retirement Home: Care, Services and Community – with Luciano Pompanin Dimai, Sole Administrator of ASSP
