Alta Via 1 Dolomites: a tailor-made trekking experience in the UNESCO Dolomites

An iconic journey through the Dolomites, entirely designed around you. This private Alta Via 1 trek is a hut-to-hut experience with a dedicated private guide, created to offer you maximum freedom and personalization at every step.

After your welcome at your hotel in Cortina d’Ampezzo, you’ll set off with your guide on a spectacular itinerary through some of the most iconic peaks: the Tofane, Lagazuoi, Cinque Torri, Croda da Lago, and Monte Pelmo. Each day is a perfect balance of nature, breathtaking views, and activity, with stays in carefully selected mountain huts and seamless organization, including luggage transfer.

Your journey day by day

  • Arrival in Cortina d’Ampezzo and hotel check-in.
  • In the late afternoon, meet your mountain guide for a welcome aperitivo and a full briefing on the experience.
  • During the meeting, you’ll receive all the practical information, including details about the luggage transfer service available throughout the trek, allowing you to hike light and carefree.
  • Dinner at your leisure and overnight stay at the hotel.
Luggage transfer details

A luggage transfer service between the mountain huts is included for the entire duration of the trek.

Each participant can hand over one bag (duffel bag or backpack) with a maximum weight of 8–10 kg. Upon check-out from the hotel, you may leave any luggage you won’t need during the trek at the hotel storage. You will carry only the bag designated for transfer, which will be collected and delivered directly to the next mountain hut.

  • Breakfast at the hotel and meeting with your guide.
  • Transfer to Rifugio Dibona, the starting point of your trek.
  • Your journey through the Dolomites begins here. The trail runs along the base of the south face of Tofana di Rozes and continues towards Forcella Col dei Bos, with wide-open views over some of the most iconic peaks of the Cortina valley. The ascent then leads up to Lagazuoi, with the opportunity to visit historical World War I sites along the way. Shortly before reaching the top, a short detour takes you to the summit of Piccolo Lagazuoi—an extraordinary panoramic viewpoint.
  • After a scenic break, descend towards Passo Falzarego (on foot or by cable car) and continue on to your mountain hut.
  • Overnight at Rifugio Col Gallina.

  • The trail crosses gentle alpine meadows leading to Lake Limides, then gradually climbs towards Rifugio Averau, with beautiful views over Passo Giau. From here, continue to Rifugio Nuvolau, the oldest hut in the area, set in a commanding position with breathtaking 360° views of the Dolomites.
  • The descent takes you to the iconic Cinque Torri, where you’ll walk through the open-air museum of the Great War.
  • The route then continues to Rifugio Cinque Torri, a charming family-run hut at the foot of the towers.
  • Overnight stay at the mountain hut.

  • Elevation gain: +1,310 ft / -1,080 ft
  • Duration: 4 hours
  • A hearty breakfast at the mountain hut and departure for the next hike.
  • The trail unfolds through scenic ups and downs leading to Passo Giau, one of the most breathtaking spots in the Dolomites. From here, the route climbs to Forcella Giau and continues across the Mondeval plateaus, an area rich in both natural beauty and historical significance. The hike then proceeds to Forcella Ambrizzola before descending towards Lake Federa—one of the most iconic views in the Dolomites, with the striking Becco di Mezzodì reflected in its crystal-clear waters.
  • Arrival at Rifugio Croda da Lago, overlooking the lake.
  • Overnight stay at the mountain hut.

  • Duration: 5–6 hours
  • A hearty breakfast at the mountain hut and departure for the next hike.
  • From Lake Federa, the trail climbs back up to Forcella Ambrizzola before continuing downhill with stunning views of Monte Pelmo, one of the most majestic peaks in the Dolomites.
    The route crosses open clearings and alpine landscapes until reaching Rifugio Città di Fiume, surrounded by unspoiled nature. From here, continue towards Passo Staulanza, at the foot of Monte Pelmo, where your mountain hut for the night is located.
  • Arrival at Rifugio Staulanza and time to relax.
  • Overnight stay at the mountain hut.

  • Elevation gain/loss: +1,150 ft / -1,970 ft
  • Duration: 5–6 hours
  • A hearty breakfast at the mountain hut and departure for the next hike.
  • The trail winds through forests and open clearings at the foot of Monte Pelmo, with wide views stretching towards Monte Civetta. You’ll reach Rifugio Venezia, a perfect panoramic spot for a scenic break.
  • The route then continues downhill towards Malga Ciauta, across meadows and alpine pastures.
  • Meeting with your private transfer and return to Cortina d’Ampezzo.
