Dolomites Crossing: 6 days on skis — a backcountry ski adventure from hut to hut

Experience the thrill of crossing the majestic Dolomites on skis, following a week-long backcountry route through breathtaking landscapes, unforgettable descents and cosy mountain huts.

Your journey begins and ends in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the vibrant heart of the Dolomites. From here, you’ll traverse untouched valleys, towering rock faces and iconic peaks like the Marmolada, Sass Pordoi, the Tofane range and the legendary Tre Cime di Lavaredo.

After an immersive technical training session in the area of the famous 5 Torri, you’ll set off on a true ski touring adventure. Each day brings new challenges and rewards: high-altitude ascents, panoramic ridges, adrenaline-pumping descents and welcoming overnight stays in authentic huts like Baita Dovich, Lagazuoi and Malga Ra Stua. Along the way, you’ll discover unique gems such as the Ampezzo Dolomites Natural Park, Croda Rossa and the dramatic Tre Cime di Lavaredo.

This is an adventure for winter mountain lovers seeking an authentic experience blending raw nature, Alpine culture and the timeless traditions of these UNESCO World Heritage peaks.

Your journey day by day

Day 1 | Welcome to the Dolomites!

Arrival in Cortina d’Ampezzo and check-in at the hotel.
Take some time to relax in the hotel’s wellness area and recharge your energy for the days ahead!
Dinner at your leisure and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2 | Training Day in 5 Torri

Hearty breakfast at the hotel.
Meet your alpine guide at the hotel — they’ll be with you throughout your Dolomites adventure! Together, you’ll head to the 5 Torri area for a training day focused on the fundamentals of ski touring: gear management, uphill and downhill techniques, snow conditions, route planning, and safety protocols. You’ll also review the itinerary for the coming days.
Return to Cortina and enjoy some free time.
Dinner at your leisure and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 3 | From Passo San Pellegrino to Marmolada

Hearty breakfast at the hotel.
Private transfer to Passo San Pellegrino. This is where your Dolomites Traverse truly begins!
Climb with skins toward Forcella Ombrettola or Furcia Rossa, depending on snow conditions. The views grow increasingly dramatic, eventually revealing the awe-inspiring south face of Marmolada (3,343 m).
Enjoy a long and thrilling descent into the valley — smooth turns on open slopes will lead you to Rifugio Baita Dovich.
Dinner and overnight stay at Baita Dovich.

Day 4 | To the Highest Peaks of the Dolomites

Hearty breakfast at the hut.
Ride the lifts up to the summit of Marmolada, the highest peak in the Dolomites.
Ski down towards Canazei and continue on to Sass Pordoi, another iconic panoramic spot.
It’s time to work up a sweat! Put on your climbing skins and head up to the summit of Sass Pordoi (about two hours). From the summit, the long descent into the Val de Mezdì leads down to Corvara: the first section is steep, with a gradient of nearly 40 degrees—a true freeride paradise!
Take the lifts to Armentarola, then hop on a ski bus to reach Passo Falzarego in about 15 minutes.
Ride the cable car up to Rifugio Lagazuoi, famous for its breathtaking views and unforgettable sunsets.

Day 5 | Ampezzo Dolomites Natural Park

Hearty breakfast at the hut.
After a short descent on the trail, we ascended on skins toward Forcella Gasser Depot, a picturesque pass nestled in the Fanis mountain range. I arrive at Forcella delle Quaire, where a wild and majestic valley opens up.
Head down into Ciadin de Fanes, a remote and scenic corner of the Dolomites.
If snow conditions permit, you can add an extra climb up Monte Ciaval, followed by a descent through Val di Fanes.
The tour ends at the parking lot where the climb up to Malga Ra Stua begins. The final stretch is on the road: you can make your way up on skis or by snowmobile.

Day 6 | The Colors of Croda Rossa & Legends of the Tre Cime

Hearty breakfast at the malga.
Climb to the Lerosa plateau, a clearing at the foot of the majestic Croda Rossa d’Ampezzo (3,146 m), located on the border between two regions (Veneto and South Tyrol) and two natural parks (Ampezzo Dolomites and Fanes-Sennes-Braies). Croda Rossa’s unique colors — grey, ochre, and deep red — make it truly extraordinary. From Lerosa, continue climbing to Forcella Colfiedo, where the panoramic view is priceless.
Descend through the wide Valon de Colfiedo down to Passo Cimabanche.
At the end of the day, a private transfer will take you to Misurina, where you’ll spend the night at the magical Chalet Lago Antorno.

Day 7 | Tre Cime di Lavaredo: Icons of the Dolomites

Hearty breakfast.
Reach Rifugio Auronzo either on foot or by snowmobile — a scenic point right at the base of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. From here, follow the route that skirts the base of the peaks to Forcella Lavaredo and Rifugio Locatelli.
Finish the day with a long descent through Val Sasso Vecchio, ending in the village of Sesto, South Tyrol.
A private transfer will take you back to Cortina d’Ampezzo for your final night.
Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 8 | Time to head home!
