The Giro d’Italia returns to the UNESCO Dolomites with one of the most anticipated stages of the 2026 edition.
On Friday, May 29, 2026, Stage 19 of the iconic Corsa Rosa will once again cross the area of Cortina d’Ampezzo during the spectacular Dolomite mountain stage from Feltre to Alleghe (Piani di Pezzè), bringing the world’s best cyclists along some of the most legendary climbs in the Italian Alps.
The route over Passo Giau and Passo Falzarego will bring the Giro back into the heart of the Ampezzo Dolomites, a setting that has long been considered one of the most spectacular symbols of international cycling.
This stage is expected to be one of the toughest and most decisive of the entire Giro d’Italia 2026: 151 km with approximately 5,000 meters of elevation gain, featuring an almost relentless sequence of climbs and descents.
After tackling Passo Duran, Coi and Forcella Staulanza, the riders will face the legendary Passo Giau. At 2,233 meters above sea level, it will be the Cima Coppi of the 2026 edition — the highest point reached during this year’s Giro d’Italia. A historic, long and extremely demanding climb, with gradients reaching up to 14%, surrounded by some of the most iconic scenery in the Dolomites.
From Passo Giau, the race will descend toward Pocol before climbing once again over Passo Falzarego, another legendary location deeply connected to the history of mountain cycling and unforgettable sporting feats, before the long descent toward Alleghe.
For Cortina and the entire Dolomite region, the passage of the Giro will also be an opportunity to experience a day of world-class sport at the beginning of the summer season, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, legendary alpine passes and all the excitement of the Corsa Rosa.
For more information about the official stage, visitors can consult the official Giro d’Italia website.
Due to the passage of the race, significant temporary road closures will be in place on Friday, May 29, 2026 along the entire race route across the Belluno area and around Cortina d’Ampezzo.
According to the official order issued by the Prefecture of Belluno, traffic will be suspended approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes before the riders pass and will remain closed until the official “End of Cycling Race” vehicle has gone through.
The main road closures will affect:
The Prefecture also specifies that no vehicles will be allowed to enter the roads affected by the race during the traffic suspension period. Visitors are therefore strongly advised to plan their travel in advance when heading toward Cortina d’Ampezzo and the Dolomite mountain passes, especially during the central hours of the day.
